Arranging pins every node where it lands; drag any of them afterwards. Free lets the map settle on its own again.
Time
A node's year is read from a field named year, date, decided or enacted, or from a year in brackets at the end of its name, such as "Kesavananda Bharati (1973)". The citation extractor adds a year field automatically.
Analyse the network
Betweenness, closeness, clustering, k-core and communities treat every connection as two-way. PageRank follows the arrows, so with a "cites" arrow from the citing case to the cited one, a high PageRank means a much-relied-on authority. Definitions are in docs/analysis.md.

Solid lines are verified or unstated, dashed inferred, dotted illustrative, long dashes disputed; lower confidence draws lighter. Reports download as Markdown and appear in the text box under Save, load, export.
Extract citations from text
Pattern matching only; nothing leaves your browser. Check each name before adding: it is read from the words just before the citation, so a sentence like "the decision in X v Y" is trimmed to "X v Y" but unusual phrasing can slip through.

A view keeps the query, colouring, sizing, outlines, evidence filters, time cut, focus and camera, and travels with the graph in its JSON. The query language is described in docs/query.md.

Graphs kept here live in this browser only; export JSON for anything that matters. A version is taken automatically before a graph is replaced or switched, up to 15 per graph.
Compare with another map
Nodes are matched by name (ignoring case, punctuation, a trailing year and words like Ltd or Ors) or by a shared citation field; connections by their two names and type. Highlight marks what only this map has; Add brings in what only the other has, and Undo removes it again.

Download as file
JSON reloads here with everything intact. The two CSVs open in Excel, Sheets and Kumu (nodes have one column per field). GraphML opens in Gephi, yEd, Cytoscape and networkx. Markdown is one note per node with [[links]] for Obsidian.
Share as a link
The whole graph travels inside the link, so nothing is uploaded anywhere. Whoever opens it gets a copy; their own graph is kept under Restore previous graph.
